The opening of the Gong and Xoang Competition for ethnic minorities in Kon Plong District, the second time, in 2024.

As part of the series of Cultural and Tourism events to celebrate the 79th anniversary of the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2024), on the morning of August 31, the People's Committee of Kon Plong District organized the Gong and Xoang Competition for ethnic minorities, the second time, in 2024, with the theme "Echoes of the Great Forest."

The competition was attended by Comrade Y Thị, Standing Deputy Secretary of the District Party Committee; leaders of district departments, sectors, and organizations; leaders of communes and towns; as well as a large number of artisans, people, and tourists.

A total of 09 teams from communes and towns participated in the competition, with nearly 250 artisans. Each team performed one continuous art program, including: the traditional gong performance with the Stieng gong set, ching Hleng, or ching Tơh, combined with the xoang dance of ethnic minorities; performances of traditional musical instruments combined with the gongs of ethnic minorities; presentations of traditional folk songs of ethnic minorities; and reenactments of traditional rituals and festivals of ethnic minorities.

The purpose of the competition is to promote the preservation and enhancement of the traditional cultural values of ethnic minorities in the district, foster pride in ethnic cultural identity, and raise awareness of preserving and transmitting traditional cultural values, especially among the younger generation of ethnic minorities. It also creates an environment for cultural exchange and development, introduces and promotes the cultural heritage of ethnic minorities in the district to tourists, and helps to effectively harness the cultural identity to contribute to local economic development.

With careful and thorough preparation in terms of content, props, and presentation, the competing teams showcased their traditional gong performances combined with the xoang dance of their respective ethnic groups. They vividly and authentically reenacted various folk rituals, customs, and practices closely tied to daily life, such as the Water Trough Worship Festival and the New Rice Festival. The performances at the competition left a deep impression on both the local people and tourists, highlighting the beautiful traditional culture of the ethnic minorities in Kon Plong District.

The closing ceremony and award presentation for the Gong and Xoang Competition for ethnic minorities in Kon Plong District, the second time, in 2024, will take place on September 1, 2024, at the Mang Den Market space.
